What are your nightly minimums?
Generally, a 2 night minimum applies. 3-4 nights are required for holidays. 3-4 nights are usually required for high season, though gaps in the calendar might make available a shorter stay. See the nightly minimum link above for specifics.
Are there any circumstances under which single night stays are allowed?
Turnarounds at our cottage are intense, as we have very high standards for cleanliness, and, simply put, a single night stay does not justify all the work involved.
Could I arrive earlier than the 4 pm check-in, or stay later than the 10 am check-out?
We’d love to be able to accommodate such requests, and we have tried to do so in the past, but for various reasons, it just doesn’t work. We always need the full time cushion for a successful turnover, and any leeway in the schedule is always used to perform extra maintenance and upgrades to ensure that the cottage is always in ship-shape.
Where can I see a comprehensive breakdown of all costs for my stay?
The rate links at the top of this page are a good starting point, but to see them together with the cleaning fee and taxes, simply start the booking process and let the system give you an itemized list of charges. Rest assured that nothing is finalized until you reach the final checkout page where you enter your credit card information.
How exactly is my credit card processed?
Like millions of other small business owners, we use Square for credit card processing. Square is not as well known as PayPal, but it’s been around for years and has quite the pedigree, having been co-founded by Twitter creator Jack Dorsey. Square is safe and simple, and flexible, accepting “any US-issued and most internationally-issued magstripe or chip cards bearing a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, or UnionPay logo.”
What is your policy regarding refunds?
If you cancel 60 days or more prior to the first date of your reservation, your refund is 95%. That 5% cannot be recouped even if you cancel within seconds or minutes of booking, as the bulk of it is the credit card processor’s non-refundable transaction fee. Please double or even triple check your dates before committing!
Less than 60 days notice means we are less likely to fill the vacancy. If you cancel 30-59 days prior to the first date of your reservation, your refund is 50%. If you cancel 0-29 days prior to the first date of your reservation, there is no refund.
To protect yourself in the event of cancellation that falls short of the 95% refund window, we highly recommend securing traveler’s insurance for your stay.
Could I pay part now and part later?
The entire stay must be paid up front. Partial payment carries greater risk, as the stay is not adequately secured, yet the dates are bound up. And it’s just easier going through the payment process a single time.
Do you offer discounts for just two people? We're looking for a couples getaway.
Yes! In 2024, we debuted the Lake Odessa Beach Cabin, maximum occupancy of two. You’d receive everything the cottage offers, minus the second floor. Rates and the cleaning fee are significantly less. The cabin is predominantly for low season stays and is likely unavailable in peak season. For more information, please reach out to us at host@lakeodessabeachcottage.com.
Do you offer discounts for the whole cottage?
If you’re looking to stretch your dollar, consider booking a low season stay, October through May. See our fall, winter, and spring pages for inspiration. And/or split the costs with another couple or family. Having two floors, each with its own bedroom and bathroom, makes it easy to do that!
What about the cleaning fee? Any chance that could be discounted?
That fee is always $149 per stay. Our custodial crew’s shift is always the same, regardless of the condition of the property at check-out, and we want to pay them a living wage.
